Govt determined to resolve allies’ grievances through dialogue: Tarar

TOBA TEK SINGH: Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving disputes with coalition partners through dialogue, during a media interaction in Toba Tek Singh on Saturday. Tarar, who visited to congratulate newly appointed Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, stressed that addressing allies’ concerns, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was a priority.

He cited statements by PM’s aide Rana Sanaullah and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, both advocating negotiation over confrontation. Tarar noted the coalition’s constitutional strength, with allies holding key posts like the presidency and Senate chairmanship.

On interprovincial water disputes, Tarar emphasized adherence to the 1991 Water Accord and 1992 IRSA Act, calling it an “administrative, not political” issue.

Highlighting economic progress, he credited PM Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership for reduced inflation, a current account surplus, and a 36% rise in IT exports. He praised the SIFC and Army Chief for stabilizing the economy, adding that global institutions like the IMF now recognize Pakistan’s recovery from near-default.

Tarar criticized the PTI for internal divisions, citing public clashes between members like Fawad Chaudhry and Junaid Akbar. He questioned why jailed PTI founder Imran Khan meets associates frequently but not his sister, Aleema Khan, alleging Bushra Bibi’s interference. Accusing PTI of spreading “chaos and hatred,” Tarar linked the party’s reaction to the Army Chief’s anti-terror stance with “journalists in India,” calling it proof of an “anti-state agenda.”

On media laws, Tarar assured the PECA Act aims to combat fake news, not target journalists, following consultations with media unions. He also vowed to address delayed salaries in media houses, praising PTV’s prompt payments.

Concluding, Tarar expressed optimism about Punjab’s development, stating, “The country is on a path to prosperity.”
