PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former federal minister Hammad Azhar has decided to seek protective bail from the Peshawar High Court, refusing to surrender to the police.
According to sources, Hammad Azhar, after consulting his legal team, decided that he would approach the court instead of being directly arrested. Hammad Azhar and his legal team have collected a record of more than 50 cases registered against him across the country, including cases registered in various cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad and Islamabad. He has been declared a fugitive several times in these cases, and he has been continuously wanted by security agencies.
Hammad Azhar had recently come out in public after his father’s death and hinted at fighting a legal battle, but according to the latest developments, he has decided to take the legal route instead of surrendering himself to the police. His legal team has completed preparations to file a protective bail application in the Peshawar High Court, and he will likely appear before the court soon.
It should be remembered that Hammad Azhar had been disappeared after the violent incidents of May 9, 2023, and several cases of terrorism, sedition and breach of peace were registered against him. The authorities conducted several raids to arrest him, but he remained beyond the reach of the law.
Political observers say that this move of Hammad Azhar could not only prove to be a turning point for his political future, but this decision could also become an example of a legal path for other PTI leaders, who are facing similar charges.
Earlier to this the Peshawar High Court had granted several protective bails Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders in May 09 related cases as the large number of FIRs make it difficult for a litigant to appear in each court simultaneously.
