A 97-year-old doctor, while sharing his experience of a healthy and long life with others, has revealed four basic principles that everyone can follow to make their life better and longer.
The name of this doctor was not revealed, but while talking to ‘Senior Care’, a non-profit organization that brings together experiences related to the health and other aspects of life of people over 95, he said that these principles are equally beneficial not only for young people but also for older people. He has said that if a person keeps the body active, uses the mind and adopts healthy habits, then diseases can be avoided even in old age. The four principles he has mentioned are as follows:
1.Drink more water
According to the doctor, drinking more water is the most important habit. People who drink less water are at increased risk of kidney damage. Water removes waste products from the body and improves blood flow. Research also proves that people who drink adequate amounts of water are less likely to suffer from heart and lung diseases.
2. Weightlifting and exercise
The doctor says that despite his age, he exercises daily and lifts light weights. Weightlifting not only keeps muscles strong but also reduces weakness and bone problems in old age. According to experts, regular exercise a few days a week improves sleep, reduces mental stress and maintains energy.
3.Keeping the brain active
The doctor advised that the brain should not be allowed to slow down. He said that people who only watch TV all day are more prone to mental problems. Reading new books, solving puzzles, playing games or learning a new skill keeps the brain sharp and improves memory. According to experts, mental exercises protect against mental weakness and memory diseases even in old age.
4. Move the body daily
The doctor has said that ‘movement is the secret of life.’ According to him, if a person does not move at all for two weeks, he can lose 10 percent of his muscle mass.
Daily physical activities such as walking, cycling, gardening or light exercise protect against heart and diabetes diseases and increase the years of life.
