Heat wave hits KP: 935 affected, 48 hospitalized in June

935 Fall Ill, 48 Hospitalized as Heat Wave Grips KP

PESHAWAR: At least 935 people have suffered from the intense heat wave in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) this month, with 48 hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi stated that the extreme heat has severely impacted both people and the environment. To help those affected, 108 emergency camps have been set up across 34 districts, providing first aid and hydration to heatstroke victims.

Rescue 1122 Director General Shah Fahad warned that the scorching temperatures have also triggered 65 forest fires in June, with Lower Dir and Abbottabad being the worst-hit areas.

In response to the ongoing heat wave, KP government has issued a public advisory, urging residents to take precautions. Officials have advised people to avoid going outside unnecessarily, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and limit strenuous physical activity during the hottest parts of the day to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Authorities are working with district administrations to control the fires, as forest blazes have risen sharply in Pakistan in recent years, particularly in KP and Balochistan.
