PESHAWAR: At least 12 people were killed and over 50 were injured as heavy rain, coupled with thunderstorms, struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) south, north regions on Saturday night.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rain and storms have resulted in the tragic deaths of 12 people, including women and children, while more than 50 others sustained injuries in various incidents. According to Rescue 1122, the severe weather occurred in Dera Ismail Khan during the night between Saturday and Sunday.
The Dera Ismail Khan Meteorological Department recorded wind speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour. The heavy rain uprooted trees, which fell onto roads and disrupted traffic. Additionally, solar panels installed on roofs were blown away.
PESCO reported that the power transmission system was severely impacted, resulting in power outages in Tank, South Waziristan, Kalachi, and Dera Ismail Khan. During the storms, at least eight people, including women and children, lost their lives, while approximately 50 were injured in various accidents.
Upon receiving the news, Rescue 1122 teams, under the direction of Engineer Fasihullah, District Emergency Officer for Dera Ismail Khan, promptly responded to the situation. They provided first aid to the injured and transported them to nearby hospitals while also working quickly to clear debris from the accident sites. Rescue teams remained active throughout the night, offering assistance to those affected.
A heartbreaking incident was reported in the Maidan Tikatak area of Lower Dir, where the roof of a building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of three children. The deceased included 10-year-old Qasim, 11-year-old Murtaza, and 9-year-old Sohail. Rescue and medical teams arrived promptly at the scene.

In Mardan, one individual died and two others were injured when a roof collapsed due to the rainfall. The body and the injured individuals were taken to THQ Hospital.
In Lakki Marwat, heavy rain caused water to enter homes, leading to the collapse of walls in some areas. In Sarai Naurang, the walls of two houses fell, and 10 people trapped inside their homes were successfully rescued. Rescue officials have also reported multiple instances of wall collapses in other areas of Lakki Marwat, alongside damage to solar panels in several locations.
