KP Braces for Heavy Rain, Floods as Met Dept Issues Weather Alert

PESHAWAR: The Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a weather advisory for multiple districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds from Wednesday night through Thursday.

Authorities expressed concerns over potential flooding, landslides, and damage from hailstorms. The affected areas include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Waziristan, Kohat, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu. Isolated showers with thunderstorms are expected in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank.

The advisory highlighted risks of flash floods in low-lying areas, landslides in mountainous regions, and possible damage to weak infrastructure, trees, and power lines due to strong winds. Higher altitudes may also experience light snowfall.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has urged residents to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated on official weather alerts. A high alert has been issued to emergency response teams to handle potential disruptions, including road hazards and power outages.
