KARACHI: Following torrential rains in Karachi, the Thado Dam in Gadap Town has overflowed. The overflow from Thado Dam has entered residential areas like Saadi Town, causing panic among residents.
According to report, people are struggling to safeguard their belongings and vehicles as water levels rise rapidly. Reports indicate that a rickshaw and a van were swept away by the strong current, and floodwater has entered multiple homes.
The overflow from Thado Dam, sending a powerful flash flood toward the M9 Motorway and a significant portion of the Super Highway has been submerged, forcing authorities to completely suspend traffic between Karachi and Hyderabad.
The National Highways and Motorway Police confirmed that floodwaters have reached the edge of the motorway near Al-Habib Restaurant, submerging nearby roads. Efforts are underway to redirect the water flow by removing crash barriers from the M9’s median to ease pressure on the highway infrastructure.
According to private news channel reports, Malir, Sohrab Goth, Machhar Colony, Khameeso Jokhio Goth, and parts of New Karachi were the worst hit of the recent flood situation following heavy rain in the area, where residents are being evacuated via boats to safer locations.
Teams from Rescue 1122 and the Edhi Foundation are actively conducting rescue and relief operations, including water drainage, evacuations, and clearing blocked roads.
