Hot, dry weather likely to prevail over most parts of KP: PDMA

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted hot weather and dusty winds in different parts of the province. Heatwave is likely to intensify in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from April 14 to 18.

According to the PDMA, the temperature will gradually increase in most areas of the province during the daytime, as a result of which the temperature may increase by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.

The PDMA has issued a letter to the district administration and related institutions, directing them to be prepared to deal with the possible effects of heat and dry weather. The letter warns that the heat wave can lead to heatstroke and increase pressure on water reserves. Farmers have been directed to ensure proper water management for their crops.

The Director General of PDMA has appealed to the public to take precautionary measures while going out in the sunlight. Elderly people and children in particular have been advised not to go out in direct sunlight between 10 am and 5 pm. People will be made aware of the precautions to be taken during the heat wave through a public awareness campaign.

The PDMA has directed health services, paramedics, and rescue departments to remain on high alert and keep heatstroke centers operational. It has also stressed on taking care of the needs of livestock and pets. The public has been asked to check the water level in the engine and tire pressure of their vehicles before traveling.

According to a PDMA spokesperson, the Emergency Operations Center is fully functional, and the public can report any untoward incident on helpline 1700. The PDMA has directed all relevant agencies to be ready to deal with emergencies.
