PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam said that the Federal government have paid a huge amount of Rs 5060 billion to Chinese Independent Power Producer (IPPs), which was enough for constructing major water reservoirs in the country.
Commenting on the payment to Chinese IPPs, he said that the Federal government is superficially wasting the money of taxpayers. He said that instead of giving money to these power companies, why government not strengthen water resources and power houses?
He said that the outstanding balance of these three IPPs is still Rs420 billion, while the government has paid Rs5060 billion to the three Chinese IPPs. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Advisor added that if the government had invested Rs3500 billion instead of Rs5000 billion in the construction of dams. Today, Pakistan would have the Dasu, Mohmand, and Bhasha dams.
He said that the policies of the PML-N have left the country economically paralysed and caused power and water insecurity. He said that wasting public money in this manner will raise many questions, and the day is not far when they will face public backlash over these decisions.
It is to mentioning here that the snail-paced work on various dams has caused huge loss to the national exchequer in terms of power crisis, as most of the funds are being diverted to IPPs, which has caused a huge burden on poverty-stricken masses.
