Wheat prices have fallen by Rs 900 per maund as, the price of wheat in the open market of Gujranwala division fell to Rs 3,100 per maund. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has indicated that wheat will be supplied to flour mills at the rate of Rs 3,000 per maund.

According to report, the prices of wheat, flour and rice have increased across the country in the wake of the flood situation in Pakistan during the past month.

After this increase, flour mill owners, grain markets and ordinary shopkeepers have claimed that the prices are increasing due to the disruption in the supply of commodities due to the floods, but experts say that the increase in prices was artificial.

According to experts, the increase in the price of flour is related to hoarding and profiteering rather than the floods. Over the past two weeks, the price of a 20-kilogram bag of flour, which was previously being sold for Rs 1,450, has increased to Rs 2,500 in some areas across the country.

Meanwhile, the prices of rice also increased as middlemen say that the recent floods have caused extensive damage to the paddy crop, due to which the price of a 25-kilogram bag of rice has increased by an average of Rs 1,000, meaning that rice has become expensive by Rs 40 per kg.
