ICC approves new rules: Single ball to be used in final 16 overs of ODIs

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced significant changes to its playing conditions, including a major revision in the use of cricket balls during One Day Internationals (ODIs).

According to the new rules, two balls will be used in an ODI innings up to the 34th over. From the 35th over onward, only one of those balls will be used to complete the remaining overs. This marks a departure from the previous rule, where two balls were used alternately throughout the full 50 overs.

In Test cricket, updated concussion substitute regulations have also been introduced. Teams will now be required to name potential substitutes in advance, specifically a batter, fast bowler, spinner, all-rounder, and wicketkeeper—alongside their playing XI before the match begins.

The updated ODI rules will come into effect on July 2, while the new Test match regulations will be implemented starting June 17.
