The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering a major expansion of the T20 World Cup, with a proposal to increase participating teams from 20 to 32. A six-member working group, led by New Zealand Cricket chief Roger Toews, has been formed to review tournament formats and future plans.
The group includes cricket board heads from India, England, and Australia, among others. While the next T20 World Cup (2026) will feature 20 teams, discussions are underway for a larger format in future editions.
In related news, USA Cricket’s suspension is expected to be postponed by three months, giving the body time to resolve administrative issues. Meanwhile, Pakistan has already secured direct qualification for the 2026 tournament.
