Inspector General of police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, has declared a zero tolerance policy for violence against children in the province.
In a strong response to the tragic death of a 12-year-old student following brutal corporal punishment at a private school in Jamrud, the Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, has issued sweeping directives to protect children’s rights and ensure a safe educational environment across the province.
The IGP condemned the violence, declaring, “Protection of the little builders of the nation is our duty; violators will be dealt with iron hands. Violence against children is unacceptable under any circumstances.” He emphasised the importance of mental and emotional well-being for children and criticised harsh disciplinary actions in schools, warning that such abuse severely hinders students’ development and can foster long-term psychological harm.
In a swift and commendable response, District Police Officer Khyber Rai Mazhar Iqbal and his team apprehended the accused teacher within just 30 minutes of the incident being reported. The IGP praised the prompt action, saying it reflects the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police’s heightened sensitivity and zero-tolerance stance towards crimes against children.
Following the incident, the IGP has directed all regional and district officers to take concrete steps to prevent child abuse. These include launching awareness campaigns in schools and strengthening the functioning of child protection units across their jurisdictions. Furthermore, he instructed that all legal procedures be thoroughly followed in the Jamrud case and that a progress report be regularly submitted to the Central Police Office in Peshawar to ensure transparency and justice.
The tragic case has sent shockwaves through the community and reignited calls for stricter oversight of school practices and better protection mechanisms for children. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, under the leadership of IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, have vowed to continue their proactive efforts in safeguarding the rights and dignity of every child in the province.
