Sheikh Yasser Al-Dosari, the Imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque, has issued a strong warning against the misuse of social media in his sermon and said that Muslims should verify any news before sharing it.
He warned that fake fatwas and fabricated statements through false or purchased accounts are causing chaos in society and defaming scholars.
According to a news report of the private media Sheikh Al-Dosari said that everything published or shared on social media will have to be answered before Allah on the Day of Judgment. He described such accounts as dangerous that deliberately spread lies and create social chaos.
He said that the misuse of smartphones is now promoting loneliness, jealousy and ingratitude instead of bringing people closer. Social media has become a source of fake lives and insincerity, which is giving rise to spiritual and social diseases. Imam Kaaba called fake fatwas and false propaganda against scholars part of an anti-Islam campaign and urged Muslims to be cautious.
