PESHAWAR: A delegation from the Imamia Jirga Khyber Pakhtunkhwa met with Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor’s House to discuss preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram and review the overall law and order situation across the province.
The delegation was led by Imamia Jirga President Farzand Ali Bangash and included General Secretary Sardar Aqeel Hussain, Coordination Secretary Sardar Ibrahim Hussain, along with other senior figures from the Shia community. During the meeting, Governor Kundi emphasized the importance of maintaining sectarian harmony and interfaith tolerance during the sensitive month of Muharram. He said, “The province is facing threats from India-backed terrorism, and ensuring peace and security during Muharram is a shared responsibility that requires collective efforts from all communities.”
He particularly highlighted the southern districts, especially Kurram and Dera Ismail Khan (D.I. Khan), as highly sensitive areas during the holy month. “These regions need special attention, and security arrangements will be strictly enforced to avoid any untoward incidents,” the Governor assured.
Governor Kundi called for unity among all schools of thought, stressing that cooperation, coordination, and mutual respect are essential to promote peace during religious events. “Maintaining law and order during Muharram is not the responsibility of the state alone—it requires equal participation from religious leaders, civil society, and local communities,” he added.
He assured the delegation that comprehensive arrangements for Muharram processions and gatherings will be made in D.I. Khan, Parachinar, and across the province, with law enforcement agencies on high alert to manage the security situation effectively.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding on the need to promote sectarian harmony, ensure peaceful observance of Muharram rituals, and strengthen community-level coordination with the administration.
