IMF demands end to EV and solar tax concessions

ISLAMABAD: As today marks the final round of talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to finalize initial proposals, sources say the global lender is satisfied with Islamabad’s economic performance.

Pakistan held productive discussions with the IMF, achieving most of the agreed economic targets. The country’s economic team briefed the IMF mission and provided all necessary financial data.

Sources confirm that no mini-budget will be introduced before June. The IMF has accepted Pakistan’s position on this matter.

Policy talks for a $1 billion tranche will conclude today. The IMF has emphasised strict implementation of economic reforms.

The global lender has also demanded an end to tax concessions on electric vehicles and their parts. It has called for similar action on solar panels, arguing that these items primarily benefit the wealthy.
