The implementation of the Ehsaas Apna Ghar scheme has commenced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with the provision of interest-free loans for housing.
According to Express News, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has initiated the process of offering interest-free loans to low-income individuals for house construction under this scheme. A ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s House to distribute loan checks, with Ali Amin Gandapur attending as the chief guest. During the event, the Chief Minister distributed interest-free loan checks to successful applicants.
An allocation of four billion rupees has been made for providing these interest-free loans. To ensure transparency, loans are being distributed through a computerised lottery system.
Eligible applicants for the loans are individuals aged between 18 and 65 years who have a monthly income of less than Rs 150,000. Under the scheme, applicants can receive interest-free loans of up to Rs 1.5 million, which must be repaid in easy instalments over seven years. In subsequent years, loans will continue to be provided through a revolving fund system.
For the first phase of the scheme, 123,000 applications were received, of which 18,555 met the scheme’s conditions. Loans are being distributed in all districts of the province based on population ratios.
In his address at the ceremony, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur emphasised that the Ehsaas Apna Ghar Scheme is a flagship, pro-poor initiative of the provincial government. This program aligns with Imran Khan’s vision of providing shelter to low-income citizens.
He stated that due to the tireless efforts of the team, the province has achieved economic self-sufficiency. The government aims to increase its resources and invest in its people, ensuring they receive the necessary facilities and solutions to their problems directly at their doorsteps. Additionally, he announced that a project to provide solar systems for deserving families will soon be launched.
The Chief Minister assured that 100 per cent transparency and merit have been prioritised in the Ehsaas Apna Ghar and Solar Scheme. Ali Amin also highlighted the existing trust deficit between the people and the government, caused by a culture of recommendations. He emphasised the need to eliminate this culture to restore the public’s trust. The provincial government is working on several projects aimed at providing quality housing for its citizens.
