Imran Khan gets unprecedented jail facilities, says Atta Tarar

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Wednesday rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) allegations that jailed party founder Imran Khan was being treated unfairly, stating that the former prime minister was not deprived of any jail facilities.

“In my opinion, the PTI founder is actually enjoying holidays instead of facing a jail term,” Tarar said during a TV interview. He added that Khan was allowed multiple meetings per week, calling it an “unprecedented leniency” not given to other political leaders.

The minister’s remarks came after PTI leaders publicly blamed each other for creating hurdles in meeting Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Recently, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan claimed that while only two lawyers were approved for a meeting, five were allowed inside, sparking controversy.

Tarar mocked PTI’s internal divisions, saying the party had split into two factions—one led by Aleema Khan (Imran’s sister) and another by his wife, Bushra Bibi. “I don’t know which PTI group was stopping the other from meeting Khan,” he remarked.

PTI lawmakers also criticized jail authorities for barring Khan’s family from visiting him, calling it “condemnable.”

The minister dismissed claims that the government was conspiring against PTI, saying they had “no time for such tactics.” He also questioned PTI’s unclear demands for political talks.
