LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Wednesday granted bail to Shahrez Khan, nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, in the Jinnah House attack case.
Shahrez, son of Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, was arrested from his mother’s residence by Lahore police on August 21. His brother, Shershah Khan, was taken into custody a day later in a related case and remains in jail on remand.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul announced the reserved verdict, allowing the bail plea and ordering Shahrez’s release.
During the hearing, the defence argued that Shahrez was not present in Lahore on May 9, claiming he was in Chitral with friends. Sworn affidavits from his friends were presented to support the claim.
The counsel maintained that Shahrez was implicated solely because of his relation to the PTI founder and urged the court to dismiss the case against him.
Police had registered terrorism charges against Shahrez at Sarwar Road Police Station in connection with the May 9 Jinnah House attack.
