Indian PM ignoring India’s Minority oppression, its foreign interference: Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said that it is regrettable that the Indian Prime Minister has once again adopted a provocative narrative, ignoring historical distortions and internal oppression against minorities.

The spokesperson said that the Indian government is involved in killings abroad and interference in the internal affairs of other countries and is occupying foreign territories and people. India’s record in occupied Jammu and Kashmir is based on systematic oppression. He said that it is a bitter reality that such a country is now trying to portray itself as oppressed, the ideological followers of the current Indian government have normalized mob violence, they have promoted hate campaigns and targeted religious minorities.

The spokesperson warned that although these measures may be effective for domestic political purposes, they are not defensible at the global level; such actions are an obstacle to presenting India as a responsible regional power.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said in his statement that Pakistan demands that India adhere to the basic principles of the international system, these principles include respect for the sovereignty of other countries, fulfilment of treaty obligations and restraint in speech and behaviour.

He said that fanning the flames of nationalism in election campaigns may provide short-term political gains, but it harms long-term peace and stability. India’s youth, who are often the first targets of nationalist politics, should reject the politics of fear and work for a future based on dignity, reason and regional cooperation.
