Indian teen with ‘werewolf syndrome’ sets Guinness world record

NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old Indian boy, Lalit Patidar, has set a Guinness World Record for the hairiest face on a male, with 201.72 hairs per square centimeter measured on his skin.

Patidar, who has lived with the rare condition hypertrichosis, also known as “werewolf syndrome,” since birth, earned the title after spending 18 years with excessive hair growth.

According to UPI, the condition affects only one in a billion people, with just 50 recorded cases since the Middle Ages.

Having hair on 90% of his face since childhood, Patidar recalled that his schoolmates were initially afraid of him. However, he shared with Guinness World Records that once they got to know him, they realised he was just like everyone else despite his unique appearance.

Patidar also mentioned that people often suggest he remove the hair from his face, to which he responds, “I like how I am, and I don’t want to change my look.”

Expressing his joy at achieving the record, he said, “I am speechless. I don’t know what to say because I’m very happy to get this recognition.”
