India’s tech dreams hit as Trump demands Apple return to US

In a major setback for India’s tech manufacturing ambitions, US President Donald Trump has reportedly barred Apple from establishing new factories in India during talks with CEO Tim Cook. The stern warning came during Trump’s visit to Doha, where he expressed strong disapproval of Apple’s growing production shift to India.

Trump emphasized his demand for Apple to prioritize American manufacturing, stating: *”We tolerated your factories in China, but we won’t accept the same in India. They’re doing fine without you – bring production back to the US.”* His remarks signal a potential policy shift that could impact global tech supply chains and India’s “Make in India” initiative.

The confrontation highlights Trump’s “America First” economic agenda, which has previously targeted major corporations for offshore production. Apple, which recently began expanding iPhone assembly in India through partners like Foxconn, now faces renewed pressure to boost US manufacturing.
