Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan into a stable global economy through sustainable institutional reforms on Monday.
Chairing a review meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) affairs, the prime minister directed the hiring of internationally reputed firms for third-party validation of ongoing reforms and initiatives within the FBR.
He emphasized that institutional reforms were advancing swiftly across various sectors, with government departments working diligently to root out corruption and enhance transparency. The prime minister said recent positive economic indicators were a testament to the effectiveness of the government’s policies.
Expressing satisfaction with the performance of the faceless customs assessment system, the prime minister noted that such reforms were helping ensure greater transparency and efficiency.
“God willing, we will succeed in our efforts to make Pakistan economically stable,” he stated.
During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the operational success of the faceless customs assessment system, which has contributed to increased revenue and significantly reduced customs clearance times.
The reform process in Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) was also reported to be progressing rapidly. Officials informed the meeting that a simplified digital tax return system would soon be launched, with plans to offer it in Urdu and other local languages to enhance accessibility for the general public.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, the FBR chairman, and senior officials from relevant departments.
