Peshawar’s Arbab Niaz Stadium is set to host international cricket once again after nearly 19 years, following extensive renovations.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that two Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches will take place at the venue, marking a significant milestone in the revival of cricket in the city. The last international match played in Peshawar was a Pakistan-India fixture in 2006.
Persistent efforts by Peshawar Zalmi and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government have led to the PCB’s decision to bring PSL action to the city. However, due to the absence of floodlights, both matches will be scheduled for the daytime.
Adding to the excitement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy will be brought to Peshawar on Thursday and put on display at the historic Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium.
Meanwhile, K-P’s Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Syed Fakhar Jahan, recently announced that construction at the stadium is set to be completed by February 15. During a visit to the site, he assured us that the provincial government would remain committed to ensuring Peshawar would become a PSL venue.
