International mother language day observed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

MARDAN: International Mother Language Day is observed in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here on Thursday to mark the occasion and promote the mother language Pashto.

February 21 is being celebrated as International Mother Language across the world.

In Mardan, various government institutions and organizations organised events to mark the occasion, while the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) Mardan chapter organised an awareness walk and a ceremony outside the Mardan Press Club.

The awareness walk aimed to highlight the importance of mother languages. The participants of the awareness walk were carrying placards, and banners in their hands inscribed with the messages about importance of mother languages.

Addressing the participants, Ijaz Hoti, Fazal Qasim and others said that developed countries and nations have achieved their milestones by giving importance to mother languages.

They said that the purpose of celebrating International Mother Language Day is not to make us aware of the importance of our mother language, Pashto, but to teach them Pashtun traditions and civilization.

The speakers said that by giving importance to and adopting mother languages, we can progress, but unfortunately, mother languages ​​are not being given the importance they need in Pakistan.

Also, events were held in Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Swat and other parts of the province where speakers stressed to promote the Pashtu language and its literature.
