Iran President Pezeshkian warmly received at PM’s House, given guard of honour

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the PM’s House on Sunday with full ceremonial honours.

A smartly dressed contingent of the Pakistan Armed Forces presented a guard of honour, while the national anthems of both countries were played. Following the formal reception, President Pezeshkian was introduced to members of the federal cabinet, and the Prime Minister also met with members of the Iranian delegation. As part of the visit, the Iranian President planted a sapling in the lawn of the PM House.

According to official sources, the two leaders will hold discussions on matters of mutual interest and cooperation. Later in the day, several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed. A luncheon has also been arranged in honour of President Pezeshkian.

The Iranian leader is also scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari in the evening. President Zardari will host a dinner in his honour. Diplomatic sources indicate that the bilateral meetings will focus on strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations, particularly in the areas of energy and trade.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with President Pezeshkian. According to the Foreign Office, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran, which are based on shared cultural, historical, and religious bonds.

President Pezeshkian acknowledged Pakistan’s continued support and expressed Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest.
