WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his administration’s firm stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, declaring that preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed state remains a “fundamental priority” for the United States. He emphasized that all necessary diplomatic channels will continue to be pursued to ensure this goal is achieved.
In a strongly worded statement, President Trump made it clear that Washington would not tolerate the development or acquisition of nuclear weapons by Tehran. “Under no circumstances will the United States accept a nuclear-armed Iran,” he said. “We are committed to using all tools of diplomacy and strategy to stop this from happening.”
The comments come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following a series of Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities. When asked about the U.S. role in the operation, Trump confirmed that Washington had prior knowledge of the Israeli offensive but firmly denied any direct involvement.
“We were informed in advance about Israel’s military plans. However, let me state clearly — the United States did not participate in the operation, and American forces had no role in the execution of these strikes,” Trump said, addressing concerns of U.S. complicity.
Despite the ongoing conflict, President Trump expressed hope that Iran would return to the negotiating table. He encouraged Tehran to continue diplomatic engagement with Washington regarding its nuclear program. “Iran must understand that it cannot possess a nuclear bomb. We want peace, and we urge them to resume serious and constructive negotiations,” he said.
Trump also issued a direct warning to Iran against any retaliatory action in response to the Israeli strikes. He vowed that the United States would stand firmly by its long-time ally, Israel, in the face of any threats.
“If Iran responds with military action, the United States will not hesitate to defend Israel,” Trump warned. “In these times of heightened regional tensions, America’s commitment to Israeli security is unshakable. We will take every necessary measure to protect peace and stability in the region.”
Reiterating his administration’s position, Trump stressed that preventing nuclear proliferation in the Middle East is not only a strategic imperative for the U.S, but also essential for preserving global peace. “Ensuring that Iran does not become a nuclear power is critical. We are fully engaged — both diplomatically and strategically — to stop this threat before it destabilises the region further,” he concluded.
President Trump’s remarks come as international observers express concern over the potential for further escalation, with calls growing for renewed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and return to dialogue.
