Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian arrives in Pakistan on official visit

ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian received a warm reception upon his arrival in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day official visit aimed at discussing bilateral, regional, and international matters, according to officials.

President Pezeshkian landed in Lahore, where he was welcomed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, cabinet ministers, and senior officials.

During his stay in Lahore, the Iranian leader is scheduled to visit the mausoleum of Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal, the poet of the East, where he will offer fateha. He will then proceed to Islamabad later in the evening, with formal meetings set for Sunday.

The visit comes at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to Iranian sources, President Pezeshkian is expected to express gratitude to Pakistan’s political and military leadership, as well as its people, for their unwavering support during the 12-day Israeli offensive against Iran in June.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, senior ministers, and top officials, as confirmed by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.

While in Islamabad, President Pezeshkian will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and meet President Asif Ali Zardari. This marks his first official visit to Pakistan since taking office. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last visited Iran on May 26, 2025.

“The visit is expected to further solidify the fraternal ties between Pakistan and Iran,” stated the Foreign Office.

Officials said the two sides are expected to sign multiple agreements aimed at boosting cooperation in culture, border trade, transportation, tourism, cultural exchange, and customs.

Sources also indicated that National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, and senior military leaders will meet with President Pezeshkian during his stay in the capital.
