Major General Hossein Salami, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Tehran early Friday, according to Iran’s state-run Tasnim News Agency.
The attack targeted several locations in the Iranian capital, including residential areas, causing civilian casualties. Flights at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport were temporarily suspended following the strikes.
The Israeli military has not yet commented on the operation.
The strike occurred just two days before scheduled nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, raising tensions in the region.
