BAJAUR – In a strong show of public sentiment against the worsening law and order situation in the region, Jamaat-e-Islami Bajaur organized a peace march, just a day after a deadly blast rocked the district.
The peace march was aimed at sending a clear message to the authorities that the people of Bajaur are no longer willing to remain silent in the face of rising insecurity and violence. The peace march began at the Bajaur Press Club and proceeded through the main areas of Khar Bazaar, culminating at Khar Chowk. A large number of Jamaat-e-Islami workers, local leaders, and civil society members participated in the march, carrying placards and chanting slogans demanding peace, justice, and protection for the people of the region. Addressing the crowd at the concluding point of the march, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders made passionate appeals for peace and stability. They emphasised that peace is not a favour, but a fundamental constitutional right of every citizen, and the people of Bajaur will not compromise on this right. They warned that if the authorities fail to take concrete steps to restore order, the people will be compelled to take their protest to higher levels through democratic and legal means.
“The recent bombings and continued incidents of violence have created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among our people,” said one senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader during his speech. “How long will innocent lives be sacrificed? We will not stay silent while our people live in constant fear. We demand immediate action.” The leaders further stated that Jamaat-e-Islami has always raised its voice against lawlessness and stood firmly for the rights of the people of Bajaur. They accused the authorities of negligence and called for more accountability and protection of the region’s residents.
Throughout the peace march, the atmosphere was charged with emotion and unity, as people from all walks of life joined in solidarity with the march. Women, elders, and youth alike expressed frustration with the government’s failure to curb militant activities and ensure a safe environment. In conclusion, Jamaat-e-Islami reiterated its commitment to continue peaceful democratic struggle until sustainable peace is achieved in Bajaur. The leadership vowed to stand shoulder to shoulder with the people, pledging not to rest until the rights, safety, and dignity of the residents are fully protected.
This march marked a significant moment of civil resistance in Bajaur, underscoring the urgent need for meaningful action by both provincial and federal authorities to address the grievances of a population long plagued by violence and insecurity.
