ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has called for a nationwide strike on April 26 to protest Israel’s continued military offensive in Gaza and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The announcement was made by JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman during a massive pro-Palestine rally held on Sunday along Islamabad Expressway.
Hafiz Naeem urged global pressure—particularly on the United States—to compel Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cease the aggression in Gaza. “We will observe a nationwide strike on April 26, including in Azad Kashmir,” he declared.
He further stated that top religious scholars have deemed jihad obligatory under the current circumstances. “Our resistance will take the form of economic boycotts and digital jihad via social media,” he said, accusing the ruling leadership of blocking any meaningful opposition to Israel’s actions.
The JI leader also brought attention to domestic concerns, pointing out that the Baloch are demanding their rights, Pashtuns are calling for peace, and people in Sindh are protesting over canal water disputes.
Reaffirming the strike, Hafiz Naeem called on Muslim leaders to take a united stand against Israeli aggression. “Despite our internal divisions, we must come together for the causes of Kashmir and Palestine,” he emphasized, denouncing the devastation in Gaza and appealing for Muslim unity in the face of oppression.
