JI rejects govt committee on merged districts headed by Amir Muqam

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rejected the committee formed under the leadership of Amir Muqam on the merger of districts and declared it contrary to the Constitution of Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club along with Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central Amir Abdul Wasi, former senior provincial minister and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa North Amir Inayatullah Khan, Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa South General Secretary Muhammad Zahoor Khattak and Provincial Information Secretary Noorul Wahid Jadoon, Jamaat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Central Amir Abdul Wasi, former senior provincial minister and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa North Amir Inayatullah Khan said that the federal government is not authorized to take any major decision regarding the merger of districts.
He said that after the 25th constitutional amendment, the provincial assembly is now the constitutionally authorised forum to take any major decision regarding the merged districts. Therefore, the federal government should avoid further lagging behind the tribal districts in the race for development through extra-constitutional measures.
He demanded that they focus on fulfilling the promises made to the tribal people at the time of merger so that the fruits of the merger could be utilised in a better way.
He said that at the time of merger, the federal government had promised the tribal people Rs 100 billion every year and promised to establish hospitals, colleges and other educational institutions on priority basis in all the merged districts, but despite the passage of seven years, the federal government has completely failed to fulfill its promises.
Party leaders strongly opposed any possible military operation, including the restoration of the previous status of the tribal areas under the guise of ongoing unrest in the merged districts, and announced that to would hold an all-party conference in Peshawar on July 29 in this regard.
