MALAKAND: The Jirga members from Adinzai, Lower Dir, on Monday, demanded the authorities concerned to bring those responsible for the University of Malakand case to justice and ensure a safe environment for the female students at the University.

Addressing a news conference here at Chakdara Press Club on Monday, the Jirga members led by Mufti Ashfaq-ur-Rehman, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Adinzai’s Islahi Jirga, flanked by other leaders from the area, Bakht Naseem Khan, Arshad Khan, Ayaz Islam, Qari Haroon-ul-Rashid, Waqar Khan, Waheed-uz-Zaman, Youth MPA Maulana Yasin Jan Madani and Maulana Arshad Ali.

Mufti Ashfaq-ur-Rehman said that no one would be allowed to disrupt the peaceful academic environment at Malakand University or harass female students.

“We demand a transparent investigation into the case and urge the authorities to bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice,” emphasised the JUI-F leader.

He said that a thorough investigation should be conducted into the incident of harassment of a female student by a lecturer at Malakand University. Action should be taken against the perpetrators if found guilty and concrete steps should be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

He said that such incidents undermine the reputation of not just an individual but the entire institution and, in this kind of mindset, were like cancer for the society.
