SHANGLA: A Jirga comprising of district administration and notables in Shangla resolved a conflict between the police and the lawyer’s community on Thursday triggered by a scuffle between a police sergeant and lawyers.
A Jirga led by the deputy commissioner, Shangla, Mohammad Fawad Khan, and Alpuri tehsil council chairman, Waqar Ahmad Khan was convened in the district Jirga hall, Alpuri. It was attended by the members of the Alpuri tehsil council, local elders, additional deputy commissioner, assistant commissioner, district police officer, Shah Hassan and over 80 members of the Shangla district bar association.
The Jirga members said that lawyers and police were inter-connected and could not continue without each other support and cooperation.
They condemned the incident and said it happens even in the houses between brothers.
The conflict between lawyers and police arose after a scuffle between a traffic police sergeant and two lawyers of the district bar Shangla which further intensified the conflict after a video of the event went viral over social media.
Initially, the lawyer’s community members had gone to the police station and attempted to resolve the issue before registration of FIR but it further intensified when a video of the event went viral on social media and people started criticizing the lawyers.
The video virality triggered the registration of an FIR against three lawyers and the lawyers community staged a protest in Alpuri chowk against the police while shouting slogans against the police and social media accounts.
The district bar association had also filed a case under section 22A against the police at court and the Jirga failed in its first attempt they made to settle the clash.
After the successful Jirga, both groups pledged to remain peaceful and continue their cooperation with each other like they did in the past.
