GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government on Sunday confirmed that journalist Shabana Liaqat and her family are among those missing after flash floods struck the Babusar Road area.
Government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq stated that Shabana, a TV anchor with a local channel, was traveling with her husband Liaqat and their three children when they reportedly went missing. He noted that the family’s disappearance brings the total number of affected families to three.
Faraq added that local volunteers recovered Shabana’s purse containing her identification card, confirming her presence in the area. Eyewitnesses reported that around 10 to 15 tourists were swept away by sudden floods.
So far, seven bodies have been recovered, while search and rescue efforts continue with the help of drones and tracker dogs.
