PESHAWAR:The surge in militant activities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has cast a shadow over Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, with political parties scaling back public gatherings and adhering to strict security protocols following government advisories.

Awami National Party (ANP) chief Aimal Wali Khan called for subdued celebrations, urging party members and supporters to observe Eid with simplicity.

“Avoid large gatherings and prioritize safety,” he said, announcing the cancellation of the traditional gathering at Wali Bagh. “Our hearts remain united even if we cannot meet physically.”

Khan emphasized solidarity with the underprivileged, urging people to share resources so that “the joys of Eid reach everyone.” He also prayed for peace in KP, Balochistan, and other conflict-ridden regions.

Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) postponed all Eid-related public engagements on the advice of provincial and district administrations due to security threats. Sources revealed that planned worker conventions were called off amid growing concerns.

Similarly, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) directed its workers to avoid large gatherings, with party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman reportedly instructed to offer Eid prayers at home.

Government’s Security Advisory 

The federal and provincial governments have issued directives urging political and religious leaders to exercise extreme caution. High-profile figures, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, have been advised to limit public appearances.

Authorities have also enhanced security for key political personalities while urging the public to remain vigilant. The KP government has warned of potential threats, prompting a subdued Eid atmosphere across the province.

A Somber Eid Amid Uncertainty

With militant activities disrupting traditional festivities, this Eid in KP will be marked by restraint rather than celebration. As political leaders and citizens alike prioritize safety, the hope for peace remains a recurring theme in prayers and public messages.
