Karachi rain chaos: Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Instagram post Sspotlights citizen struggles

KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has publicly appealed for help as widespread power outages, caused by continuous heavy rains, paralyze life in Karachi.

In a post on Instagram, Sarfaraz highlighted the severe situation in the Buffer Zone area, stating that residents have been without electricity for over ten hours. The crisis has worsened to the point that even backup UPS systems, which provide temporary power, have shut down due to the long duration of the outage.

“The power has been off for 10 hours and the UPS has also shut down. The power should be restored soon,” the former captain wrote, expressing the growing worry and frustration of citizens.

The city’s power utility, K-Electric, reported that the intense rainfall has forced them to cut power to 550 of the city’s 2,100 feeders as a safety precaution. While over 1,550 feeders are still active, the massive outages have disrupted daily life. The utility’s efforts to repair the damage are also being hampered because their vehicles are struggling to get fuel.
