Karachi sees surge in traffic accidents, eight killed including woman

KARACHI: Karachi witnessed an increase in road accidents over the past two days, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and leaving several others injured.

According to officials, the road accidents occurred in different areas of the city, highlighting growing concerns over reckless driving, poor road conditions, and inadequate traffic enforcement.

The most severe incident occurred near Steel Town Mor, where a speeding trailer struck a motorcycle, killing two young riders on the spot.

Similarly, in another incident near Mauripur Road’s Machar Colony, a man was fatally hit by a vehicle while crossing the road.

Tragedy struck again at the Northern Bypass near Hamdard Cut, where Mohammad Yameen, a motorcyclist, died in a collision. Similar fatal accidents were reported from Baldia (near Sharjah Shopping Mall) and Wireless Gate near the Airport, with one death at each location.

Further reports confirm the death of Khadim Hussain near the Northern Bypass on Super Highway in yet another road mishap. Meanwhile, at Port Qasim, a 30-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a train while attempting to cross the railway track.

Residents and commuters across Karachi have voiced frustration and fear over the alarming frequency of such incidents. Many blame poor road infrastructure, lack of traffic signals, insufficient street lighting, and the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours.
