Khawaja Asif mocks PTI chief’s nobel bid, contrasts jail terms

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated on [insert date] that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government had assumed power through a constitutional process, referring to the ouster of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government via a no-confidence motion in 2022.

Addressing a public gathering in Sialkot, Asif claimed that the PTI’s tenure had left the country in “destruction,” while the current government was now spearheading development projects, including the Sialkot-Khariyan Motorway, set to commence by June, and the ongoing construction of the Sialkot Ring Road.

He congratulated the public on the recent reduction in electricity prices, crediting former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s policies. “Whenever Nawaz Sharif returns, an era of development begins,” Asif asserted.

The defense minister highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remained under severe terrorist threats but praised the Pakistan Army for its sacrifices in safeguarding the country.

Without naming Imran Khan directly, Asif took a swipe at the PTI founder, recalling his own imprisonment while contrasting it with the former premier’s current detention. “I was also jailed, but now I hold meetings and press conferences,” he remarked.

He accused the PTI leadership of seeking “statements from America” and attempting to discourage overseas Pakistanis from sending remittances, a move he claimed had failed. “Record remittances have poured into Pakistan despite their tactics,” he added.

Asif also mocked the PTI chief’s past demands for a “Nobel Prize,” contrasting it with his current imprisonment.
