ISLAMABAD; Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that India could take military action “at any time” following heightened tensions after last week’s attack on tourists in Kashmir.
In an interview with *Reuters*, Asif stated that Pakistan is prepared for any aggression and has taken necessary strategic steps. He emphasized that while war is not certain, the risk remains, and Pakistan will respond forcefully if attacked.
India blamed Pakistan for the Kashmir attack, a claim Islamabad denies. Pakistan has demanded an impartial investigation, but India has not yet responded.
Asif clarified that his earlier comments were misinterpreted—he did not predict war but highlighted the next few days as critical. He noted that China and Gulf nations are working to prevent further escalation.
The defense minister confirmed that Pakistan’s military is fully prepared to defend the country. He reiterated that nuclear weapons would only be used if Pakistan’s existence is threatened.
Asif urged India to allow an international probe into the Kashmir incident, accusing New Delhi of spreading false allegations.
