Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, addressed a ceremony at Khyber Medical College (KMC) in Peshawar where he made several significant announcements related to healthcare, education, and infrastructure development in the province.
The Chief Minister officially announced that Khyber Medical College would be granted university status, marking a major milestone for the institution. “There is no competition between KMU and KMC. Both serve important purposes, and this upgrade is aimed at improving medical education standards,” Gandapur said.
Reaffirming the state’s responsibility in providing health facilities, Gandapur emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services across all divisions of the province. He also pledged to provide Rs 30 crore (300 million) for cardiac surgeries at Khyber Teaching Hospital in the near future.
Highlighting the improving financial status of the province, the Chief Minister stated, “Our income is increasing, and we will spend this money on our citizens. We are committed to investing in sectors where it is truly needed.”
Gandapur also spoke on the need for sustainable water management. “We should build dams so that what is now seen as a punishment in the form of water becomes a blessing,” he remarked. He reiterated the government’s commitment to constructing dams wherever necessary.
Referring to recent compensation efforts following disasters or losses, the Chief Minister shared a recent interaction with a shopkeeper who claimed a loss of one crore rupees and received Rs 5 lakh in compensation. “I told him to be grateful earlier, but people didn’t even get that. We’ve doubled the compensation,” he stated.
However, Gandapur also expressed frustration over the lack of support from the federal government, particularly regarding funding for canal and water infrastructure projects. “The province is being neglected. There is no funding from the federal government for canals and related projects,” he said.
