Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly approves penal amendment bill 2025 by majority vote

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has approved the penal amendment bill 2025 by a majority vote,  which is titled the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Penalty Act and the law governing the collection of donations.

According to sources, Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam presented the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Charities Amendment Bill 2025 during a session of the Assembly. The amendments alter the registration procedure for non-governmental organisations (NGOs); now, registered charities will need to renew their registration every two years.

A commission will be established to oversee this process and set the fees for renewal. The amendment specifically modifies Section 12 of the bill.

Additionally, a bill to amend the KP Penalty Act 2021 was introduced and approved by a majority vote. This Act allows the Chief Minister to appoint Council members who will review the implementation of sentences. The Council will consist of serving or retired government employees, prosecutors, judges, and lawyers. Members attending Council meetings will be eligible for an honorarium, and the Chairman will be limited to serving no more than two consecutive terms. Furthermore, the Chief Minister will appoint a Chief Executive Officer for the Council.
