Khyber Pakhtunkhwa flood death toll rises to 379: PDMA

Shangla floods

PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Sunday confirmed that the death toll from the recent devastating floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has climbed to 379, with dozens still missing. Officials warned that the number is likely to rise further.

The update came as the Met Office issued fresh alerts of heavy rainfall over the next five days, raising fears of more flash floods and urban flooding.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, during a visit to Buner, pledged full rehabilitation for the victims, vowing to rebuild destroyed homes and settlements.

According to PDMA’s latest data, 156 people were injured, while entire villages were swept away by torrents on Thursday and Friday. Buner remains the worst-hit district with 274 fatalities, followed by Shangla (36), Mansehra (24), Bajaur (21), and Swat (16).

The disaster was triggered by a cloudburst in the mountains of Buner, which sent torrents of water surging into the lower areas.
