PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to purchase two new helicopters following the recent crash of a helicopter involved in a relief operation. KP Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali Advocate confirmed the decision in a statement to Pakhtun Digital.

Speaking on the matter, Ehtesham Ali said that after one of the provincial helicopters crashed while participating in a relief effort, the government has approved the procurement of two modern helicopters. These helicopters will be dedicated to rescue, relief, and emergency operations.

He explained that previously, in collaboration with Rescue 1122, the KP Health Department had converted one of its helicopters into an air ambulance. Funds were allocated for this purpose, and the aircraft was used in emergencies as a medical evacuation unit. Unfortunately, that very helicopter was lost in a crash.

Following the incident, the provincial government has now decided to purchase two new helicopters to strengthen its capacity for emergency and disaster response.

Earlier, the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had also confirmed the plan to purchase a new helicopter, citing the need for aerial support in natural disasters and other critical situations. After the recent crash in the Mohmand district, the province is left with only one operational helicopter, prompting the decision to expand the fleet.
