The Food Department of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a notification to establish the maximum ex-mill price of sugar. This decision follows an agreement signed between the Federal Ministry of National Food Security and Research and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association on July 14, 2025.
According to the notification, the ex-mill price of sugar is set at Rs 165 per kg, effective July 15, 2025. This price will increase by Rs 2 each month, reaching Rs 171 per kg by October 15, 2025.
The notification also stipulates that the difference between the ex-mill price and the retail price should not exceed Rs 8 per kg to ensure that the public receives maximum relief. It has directed Deputy Commissioners to establish the retail price of sugar within their districts and to provide daily reports on its implementation.
In determining the price, factors such as transportation, wholesale and retail margins, shop rent, packaging, and labour charges should be taken into account. Additionally, the announcement stated that legal action will be taken in cases of violation.
