The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has submitted a demand of Rs 20 billion from the provincial government for the fiscal year 2025-26, demanding three times more financial resources than the current budget.

The police budget proposal includes modern weapons, thermal guns, armoured vehicles, IT equipment and improvement of police infrastructure in merged districts. According to police sources, a huge amount would be required to equip the KP police with modern facilities and these funds would be utilized for modern weapons, thermal guns, armoured vehicles, information technology equipment and improvement of police infrastructure in merged districts. The budget proposes to allocate Rs 14.5 billion for the settled districts while Rs 3 billion for the merged districts.

The IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that in the context of security challenges, terrorist threats and modern crimes faced by the province, it has become imperative to equip the police force with new technology and facilities. Keeping these needs in mind, a significant increase in the budget has been proposed. The budget proposals include the repair and construction of police stations, check posts and other important buildings, the launch of the Safe City project in the southern districts, and the completion of long-pending development projects.

According to the police spokesperson, several projects have been delayed during the current fiscal year due to lack of funds, which have now been completed on a ‘one-time basis’ strategy. The procurement of modern weapons, thermal guns and APC vehicles is at the top of these priorities. It should be noted that in view of the law and order situation and possible threats of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, increasing resources for the police force has been a long-standing demand, which has now been formally addressed in the form of budget proposals.
