PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, has asserted that the province has achieved economic self-sufficiency and is now in a position to provide financial aid to the federal government. In a recent statement, the CM claimed that KP’s revenue growth has reached a level where the province could even offer loans to the federation — a reflection of its economic strength.
“The province is economically stable, and the federal government is now seeking support from us. We are capable of providing aid, which is a major achievement,” Gandapur said. He emphasized that KP will continue on its path of development and maintain efforts focused on public welfare.
Speaking on regional security matters, Gandapur welcomed the federal government’s initiative to engage in dialogue with Afghanistan and urged that tribal elders and representatives from KP be included in the negotiation process. “Afghanistan’s issues cannot be resolved through force; peace can only be achieved through serious and inclusive dialogue,” he said, calling for a united approach to ensure long-term stability in the region.
Meanwhile, KP’s Advisor on Finance and Information, Muzammil Aslam, reiterated the province’s commitment to financial independence. He confirmed that there are no plans to introduce new taxes in the upcoming provincial budget. Instead, the government will focus on expanding the tax net and improving enforcement to boost revenue collection.
Aslam highlighted significant growth in the province’s tax and non-tax revenues, noting a 40% increase in tax collection and over 50% growth in non-tax income over the past 11 months compared to the previous year. “We aim for a further 40% increase in tax revenue next year. There is no intention of burdening citizens with new taxes,” he added.
He also acknowledged concerns about federal funding for the merged tribal districts, warning that any delays in transferring those funds could affect the province’s projected budget surplus. He stated that consultations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan were ongoing regarding the budget, especially in light of anticipated IMF conditions tied to the upcoming federal budget.
“Our financial strategy and budgetary plans require input from the PTI leadership, particularly Imran Khan. His guidance is essential as we prepare for the next fiscal year,” Aslam noted.
