KP announces 1 million aid for families of Libya Boat incident victims

PESHAWAR: In a sombre ceremony at Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) received the mortal remains of Pakistani nationals who tragically lost their lives in a recent boat accident off the coast of Libya.

The emotional event was attended by senior officials, grieving families, and representatives of various government institutions, all united in mourning and solidarity.

Malik Nek Muhammad Khan Dawar, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Relief, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, led the proceedings.

He announced a comprehensive support package for the families of the deceased, including a compensation of 1 million Pakistani rupees (approximately $3,500) for each victim, as part of the government’s commitment to stand with the bereaved during this difficult time.

The provincial government has made exceptional arrangements to ensure the dignified return of the victims to their native areas. Helicopters have been deployed to transport the remains to remote regions, including Kurram and Parachinar, reflecting the administration’s resolve to provide swift and respectful assistance to the affected communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Malik Nek Muhammad Khan Dawar expressed profound grief over the tragedy and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families.

“The government shares the pain of the bereaved families and will provide them with all possible support,” he said.

He also emphasized the government’s commitment to improving accessibility to remote areas, pledging continued helicopter services to facilitate transportation for residents of Kurram, Parachinar, and other far-flung regions.

The event was attended by Secretary Relief Yousaf Rahim, Director General of Rescue 1122, senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, and representatives of other relevant institutions. The families of the victims, many of whom were visibly distraught, were also present to receive their loved ones’ remains.

The Libyan boat accident, which claimed the lives of dozens of Pakistanis, has highlighted the perils faced by migrants seeking better opportunities abroad.

As the remains were transported to their final resting places, the provincial minister led prayers for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and their forgiveness, a gesture that resonated deeply with the grieving families.
