The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet on Thursday approved sending the resolution regarding the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA) to the centre. Resolution No. 132 was unanimously passed, rejecting the proposed amendments to the PECA and firmly supporting the freedom of the press.
The 31st meeting of the provincial cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, in which the cabinet also approved the sending of the unanimous resolution No. 132 of the provincial assembly to the federal government. This resolution rejects the proposed amendments to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and strongly supports the freedom of the press.
The meeting also approved several significant legal amendments, financial matters and appointments. After the meeting, Advisor on Information Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif briefed the media and informed them about the details of the meeting.
He said that the cabinet approved amendments to Section 12 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Charities Act 2019. Along with this, new amendments have also been ratified in the West Pakistan Land Revenue Rules 1968, which include rules related to land demarcation and eviction of illegal occupants.
During the meeting, the appointment of two new members for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board was also approved, while the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade was allowed to use funds of Rs 25 million for salaries and operational expenses.
The meeting also approved a subsidy of Rs 1 billion for the Peshawar BRT project, which aims to improve the transport sector and promote public facilities.
Furthermore, amendments were also approved in the Rules of Business for the Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment Departments, so that the performance of these departments can be made more effective and efficient.
According to Barrister Saif that these decisions of the cabinet are positive steps towards the development of the province, transparency in governance and public welfare.
