KP Chief Secretary launches three days Polio campaign in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah has officially inaugurated the anti-polio campaign in the province on Friday.

The campaign will continue from May 26 to May 30, with a target of vaccinating 7 million children across the province. The Chief Secretary said that extraordinary security arrangements have been made to make the campaign successful.

About 50,000 security personnel will perform duties during the campaign, while more than 35,000 teams will go door to door to administer polio drops to children.

Shahab Ali Shah said that polio is a dangerous disease that can disable children for life. He said that 22 cases of polio were reported in the province last year, while 5 more cases have come to light till May this year.

He further said that the presence of polio virus has also been confirmed in environmental samples taken from different areas, which has increased the threat. The Chief Secretary announced that the government is providing more facilities in the health sector and soon thalassemia treatment will also be included in the Sehat Card Plus program.
